Replacement for antibiotic

Blood plasma as replacement for antibiotic

Plasma proteins are a natural alternative to antibiotics in feed for weanling pigs. Weaning is characterized by a period of anorexia that leads to gut barrier dysfunction associated with intestinal inflammation, increased intestinal permeability and as a result increased sensitivity to enteric infections and diarrhea.  These problems can be solved with antibiotic, but significant research has also demonstrated the benefits of using spray dried plasma as an alternative to antibiotic in the feed for weanling pigs. See David Tollallardona´s Meta analysis  (Torrallardona et al., 2010).
